What is a School Cluster?
In the San Diego Unified School District, schools are organized into clusters for greater community cohesion. Clusters consist of a high school and the middle and elementary schools that feed into it.
Clusters ensure that there is continuity for the neighborhood students in UTK through 12th Grade.
Cluster councils promote the schools in their communities.
Cluster councils work with schools, community and district staff to improve the quality of their neighborhood schools.
Cluster councils are a democratic representation of the school community including teachers, administrators, support staff, students, parents and community members.
Together, the Mira Mesa Cluster School (MMCS) Council’s teaching and learning community excels in providing the highest quality education for all children. MMCS believes that sharing the responsibility of education among school personnel, students, parents and other community members is essential to maximize student achievement. MMCS emphasizes meeting the diverse academic, social and personal needs of our cluster schools.
Meetings are generally attended by school principals (or associate principals), parents/caregivers, and representatives from community groups such as the Mira Mesa Town Council, Mira Mesa Library, and the MCAS Miramar School Liason.
All are invited to attend Cluster meetings, which take place throughout the school year.
